My wife and I originally became interested in Carl Nelson Photography when we saw an art book on display at our chosen venue. The book was not on display because Carl (primary photographer of Carl Nelson Photography) kept it there in hopes of gaining clients. In point of fact, the album didn’t have any information on the photographer at all. Flint Hill (www.flinthill.com) left the album on display because it so wonderfully portrayed their venue. We asked who the photographer was, and though we assumed he would be out of our price range, decided to make an appointment.

Our first meeting with Carl went wonderfully. We met his wife and dog, thumbed through album after album, discussed his process, and were amazed once more with the art books he had out for our viewing. However, more than anything else, my wife and I were amazed at how comfortable we felt. Later we would realize just how important it was to be comfortable.

We booked Carl (his pricing was on par with photographers suggested by our venue) and set a date for our engagement photos. We were, quite simply, thrilled with the whole process. Christie and I were completely unfamiliar with having our photos taken. Neither she nor I have ever felt comfortable being the center of attention. Carl made a “photo shoot” feel more like catching up with a friend. He was able to put Christie and I at ease, get some wonderful photos, and take a load off our minds in one pass.

I won’t speak on my wife’s behalf, but the day of the wedding I was pretty nervous. Carl and his wife, both calmly and steadily, shot photos and moved about the crowd capturing snippets of time. I never once felt as if Carl was under foot or in the way, I never felt embarrassed to have my photo taken, (normally a big issue with me) and during each session of planned photos, I never felt like I was taking orders or following a lead so much as enjoying some time with my groomsmen and my future father in law.

Carl Nelson Photography did a wonderful job. We only had one shot at getting the right photographer, and we pulled it off. The person that will take photos at your wedding will be the person you see the most of, so it is vitally important you choose someone that is fun, nice, and pleasant to have around.
